Internet Fraud: EFCC nabs students, graduates, NYSC member in Abuja raid

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arrested nine suspected internet scammers (also known as Yahoo boys) on Friday in different locations in Abuja.

They are Daniel Archiobong, David Ikechukwu, Alex James, Williams Vincent, Sanni Lucas, Ichado Victor O, Ubah Henry, Anifowoshe Femi, and Akinseye Dipo.

Suspects between 21 and 25 years old include graduates and students from Oduduwa University, Osun State, as well as a member of the National Youth Services Corps (NYSC).

Tony Orilade, spokesman for EFCC, in a statement, revealed that his arrest was a sequel to the intelligence received by the EFCC Cyber Crimes Section.

He said some of the suspects acknowledged their crimes, which include identity theft, romance scam and online bitcoin scam, among others.

“The information collected from the suspects shows that they roam social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, from where they cheat unsuspecting Nigerians and overseas victims.

“Items recovered from them include Toyota Venza, Lexus and Mercedes Benz cars, mobile phones and laptops,” Orilade added.

The suspects will be indicted in court as soon as the investigation is finished.
